ABOUT
MICHAEL HAUVER
Michael
Hauver's life has been about creative endeavors.
A fine artist with a Master's Degree in Painting, and a stone mason
with 30 years experience in new and restorative construction, he is
drawn to design and structural challenges. This background, combined
with an intense, lifetime love of music and guitars set the stage
for Hauver Guitars.
Hauver's
approach to building is from a repairman's view. Starting out as a
collector of old guitars (most of which were unplayable unless you
were using a slide) he began repairing and restoring instruments.
This eventually led to taking on repairs for other collectors and
music stores. After years of repairs, he attended Charles Fox's American
School of Lutherie in Healdsburg, California and began building.
Inspired
by the guitars of the 1920's and 30's, the concept of combining the
ladder bracing pattern and the stylistic aspects of the past with
the modern building techniques and materials of the present was born.
The goal was to have a 'new-old' guitar which would be easy to repair
and adjust through the life of the instrument. "Every guitar
in its lifetime will need some type of repair or adjustment; if not,
the guitar is over-built. That is why I advocate bolt-on necks, graphite
reinforcement in necks and reverse kerfing."
